Long story short, Muppet*Vision 3D opened in Walt Disney World's MGM Studios originally to form the anchor of a Muppet Studios area once Disney had finalized the acquisition of the Jim Henson Company. With the 1990 death of Jim Henson, the 4-D show opened and was one of the last recorded Muppet performances by Henson.
In the queue, we are treated with a walkthrough of Muppet Labs. Throughout the queue there are several spoof Muppet posters and even more puns on office doors. The large preshow room is the designed after Muppet theater prop shop filled with even more ridiculous puns. The video has Scooter preparing for the show wacky interruptions by Fozzie Bear, The Three Ds badly singing "By the Light of the Silvery Moon", Gonzo taps dancing to "Tea For Two", the penguin orchestra and Rizzo the Rat portraying Mickey Mouse. You get your 3D Glasses and head into the auditorium.
In the box, Statler and Waldorf heckle the audience and the penguin orchestra. They play the Muppet Show Theme as Gonzo and Kermit introduces us to the Muppet*Vision 3D demonstration as we meet Zoot, Swedish Chef, and lists the upcoming acts of Miss Piggy and Sam Eagle's "Salute To All Nations, But Mostly America". Fozzie comes in to show off some cheap 3D gags.
Kermit then takes us to Muppet Labs with Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker. Their new invention is Waldo C. Graphic (the spirit of 3D) which wreaks havoc in the lab before being vacuumed up along with the whole set. Waldo then turns into a taxi and escapes. Kermit leads us back into the Muppet Labs as Fozzie shows off his next cheap 3D gag, a remote control flying banana cream pie. Kermit then introduces the first musical selection of the show.
In a pretty scene, Miss Piggy sings "Dream a Little Dream With Me" with Bean Bunny distracts the scene by blowing bubbles. As Bean Bunny runs away with Waldo, the gang gets together to find him with flashlights. A real character Sweetums appears in the audience as Bean Bunny appears in the left box. He agrees to help by getting to set off the fireworks.
The grand finale begins with patriotic toy soldiers playing bits "Stars and Stripes Forever", "La Marseillaise", "It's a Small World" and the 1812 Overture as chaos starts up leading Waldo to transform into a firework rocket. Miss Piggy rises up as the Statue of Liberty. Her skirt rips off, the rocket smoke leads into the penguin orchestra.
The Swedish Chef, while trying to shoot Waldo out of the air, shoots a cannon revealing the back of the theater and glimpse of MGM Studios. Kermit appears and apologizes for the mishaps during the 3D presentation. Waldo appears one last time, transforming into Mickey Mouse before being finally vacuumed up by Bean Bunny. The Muppet Show Theme is played as the exit music.
Like many shows of this kind, there's no official soundtrack releases and no original songs written for the show.
The attraction opened at MGM Studios in May, 1991. A replica of the show would be an opening day attraction at Disney California Adventure in February, 2001. It would run at DCA until 2016 and eventually replaced by Mickey's PhilharMagic. In June 2025, Muppet*Vision 3D will end its run at Hollywood Studios. While it wasn't an opening day attraction, it's still one of the few lasting remnants of the early days of the park.
